Soumis

XA-TWH a Learjet 25D arriving from Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Mexico to Galveston - diverted to Hobby due to fog. Upon landing on runway 12R the Learjet crashed through a barrier - 1 person was transported to local hospital. Aircraft stopped 50 yards from Aiport perimeter fence. The Lear doesn't look bad, still on it's wheels!!! (abclocal.go.com) Plus d'info...

Lear landed shortly after 4am, had diverted from Galveston due to fog - the medevac had a crew of 4, and a child patient and the father. Was en route to Galveston to transport child to children's hospital.
During over run, aircraft said to run over a 'rail' causing unknown damage to the port side of the aircraft?? Doesn't appear anyone injured due to the mishap.

I believe the ILS at KGLS has been inop since Hurricane Ike in 2008. I think VUH VOR got knocked out of service which is a required navaid for identifying the FAF. Airport was at 300/<1mi, so that story tells itself.

Houston Chronicle is reporting a child burn victim was on board.

Any landing you walk away from is a good landing. talking to the insurance company about the damage, that is a whole other story.

I was a passenger on a Lear 35 that stopped short of an over run by 10 feet or less in Buffalo - and I recall the instant stress as the realization hit that we were fastly - running out of runway - never mind the violent stop!!!

So I can't imagine being at a speed that when you go off the end, your still going another 1000 feet in poor visibility - most likely not knowing what is ahead of you.

How fortunate that they had such an over run area - the barrier they hit and went through - is located 1000 feet from the end of the runway.
That could have ended badly!!!! Instead - it's just a blur on the news :)

better to be a blur on the news rather than a major story. Blur means you lived, major story - probably dead.

"aircraft said to run over a 'rail'"

The 'rail' was actually the localizer for Runway 12R.
