'World's worst airline' launches world's worst booking site

Booking is more difficult than you think Air Koryo's new ticket booking system reinforces the company's less-than-brilliant reputation. After multiple trials to book a one-way ticket from Shengyang to Pyongyang, we failed to secure any reservation. Instead, we ended up with this message day after day: “We cannot find any flights for your flight schedule. Please change your schedule and try again.” (travel.cnn.com) Plus d'info...

I flew from Sheng Yang on some ancient Soviet iron. It was loud and proud. To book the flight one had to be present at the airport and purchase a blank form for one fen. After you completed the form, and explained why your family name had more than five letters, and that would not import any fans into RNK you were allowed to write your name on a clipboard of the flight you desired. On flight day you must pay cash and only RMB. I was greeted by name while boarding in Engrish. In flight they turned on the smiles and served each passenger his own cello wrapped hard candy and a glass of tea. They collected the glasses and stood at the front of the plane. A pink plastic tub came out and was filled with dishwater. One girl washed, the other dried and replaced the glasses in a cupboard on the bulkhead. Upon arrival we were advised the Jetway was "out of order" (it was still on order, there were none at the terminal) and we would need to wait for the stairs. It took ten minutes for them to be pushed by hand out to the ramp. Bit of a jump here, the top step was about 18 inches below the door, Hiked to the terminal and were taken through the Duty Free first, then onto customs and immigration. It took about 20 minutes per passenger to face the agent and answer questions. There were 4 foot fluorescent lamps shining in your face just above the inspectors booth. They needed all that light to take pictures of everyone.

Out the door and into baggage claim. A uniformed porter grabbed my sleeve and pulled me over to my bags. I nodded they were mine. He picked them up and took me to the taxi line and gave a number to the dispatcher. A 40 year old Datsun pulled up and to me to work.

Not such a bad airline, it is the government that needs to step it up.
