Garmin to Discontinue GNS530 Series GPS
Garmin announced Tuesday it will discontinue production of the popular GNS530W navigator beginning November 30, 2011. While the GNS430W series product is still available, Garmin anticipates this product will be discontinued in the first half of 2012. The news from Garmin comes as no suprise to the avionics world after the company recently introduced the next generation GTN600 and GTN700 series touch screen navigators. Wow. That is the end of a very quick era! Becoming an old timer. Just fine with my 530/430 stack. Was quite cool just a couple of years back. Hell, I might strip her down and just fly with one VOR and a trusty ADF.
According the article, Garmin is planning to continue support for the 530/430 series for quite some time. I'm sure there are thousands of units in service.
