Yeager re-enacts historic sound barrier flight
Sixty-five years after becoming the first human to fly faster than the speed of sound, retired Air Force Brig. Gen. Chuck Yeager is still making noise. The 89-year-old Yeager, who was featured in the movie "The Right Stuff," flew in the back seat Sunday of an F-15 Eagle as it broke the sound barrier at more than 30,000 feet above California's Mojave Desert — the same area where he first achieved the feat in 1947 while flying an experimental rocket plane. Hail to all "Daredevils", and regular military flyers!!
Was The best pilot in the world flying chase again ?
I remember reading (in Chucks book) about Yeager and Hoover flying around Europe in 51's on their last flight together in ww ll. They truly have "been there, done that" in the aviation world.
I was glad to see that Ret. B Gen.(I did not not about the rank)Yeager was able to "re-create" his flight. The fact that he actually handled the AC was a huge plus+++++! Kudos to him.
BUT!, A yahoo post from an anoymous AP writer? Isn't there anything more?
I expected a first hand account from some one who was there, as usual on posts, from here on FlightAware.
Don't get twisted, I am not downing this, just wish it had been a little bit MORE, and a lot less YAHOO, and AP(no writer).
I hope like HEll I can do this some day, not to mention being able to do it @ 89 YO!

I was there when General Yeager took off for the flight. He was already in the plane when I got to the ramp, so I could not get a good sense of his physical shape. A video taken by Nellis PA shows him climbing the stairs himself and gingerly getting into the cockpit under his own power. However, the 57th Wing Vice Commander told me that Yeager passed his physical and did not need any type of medical waver for the flight. Here are some photos I took as they departed: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/6yi9f8p128yi9kp/-CVD0mTH3j/D200
Awesome shots. Thank you for sharing these! I can't imagine being there when he took off....
