These birds make sweet music with those big engines!

Hey thank you Royal....

The aircraft code is a G96. Thanks for letting me know.

I remember there being one based at RAF Mildenhall Suffolk UK. The noise it made when taxing was unmistakable. Noisier than the local tractors:-)
John Rumble
The Canadian navy used to have one at their display area every year at the Canadian National Exhibition in the late 50's and early 60's

Impressive feat getting a 2 engined aircraft down to that size and tough enough to operate off off carriers. Lockheed pulled off something similar with the P-38. Of course, Grumman was known for impressive naval aircraft.
Mark Bullock
The mail plane.

Smart plane! We could stand a few more S-2 Tracker restorations going on out there, as well as an E-1 Tracer for good measure..

AKA C-1 Stoof, used for COD (Carrier Onboard Delivery), the E-1 Tracer was a Stoof with a roof🤣😂. Twin 1820’s, what a sound when idling 😎😎
Kim Paige
ASW(Anti Submarine Welfare) version was S-2 Tracker, and to train pilots was a TS-2 Tracker

The Navy parked one of these next to my Huey at Seoul AFB in 1972. love to watch that thing crank up.

Every time a P2-V was dispatched for fire at a retardant tanker base, I loved to go out and listen to the sweet sound of the radials firing up. My first aviation maintenance training was USCG HU-16 with 1820's.
Good ole days!

Needs a new set of rings.

I flew aboard USS COBSTELLATION (CVA-64) in the Tonkin Gulf on 2NOV1969.

I was aboard one doing a deck launch off USS Midway and a second time but during a cat launch off USS Lexington. I remembered the brief before both launch very well. It's every man for themselves out the hatch if we go in the water. USN PR2 71-75
