When I was a kid I lived less than a mile from Canadair in Montreal. These guys flew over my house. I'll remember the sound to this day. Love the Starfighter!

Note to Frank Theiault below...I too lived near Canadair in St. Laurent, the shriek from these CF-104's was awesome. I also remember an unintentional sound barrier break that broke windows in the area. Good times...long ago...

From what I can find on the Internet this is a Lockheed, not Canadair, built F-104A on display at March. 33.883194,-117.266038

Every Wednesday I was with the Air Cadet, squadron 621 CANADAIR, and we had a barrack right beside the mecanic shop where Canadair made the maintenance, we always visit to see what plane was there.

Not often an F-104 and an F-105 are parked that close to each other. They both take a heck of a lot of runway though.

Love that aircraft. Was in service somewhere in the world for over 40 years and made many records, from highest altitude by a single engine jet, first fighter to launch a nuclear capable missile at mach 2 and ya, the Germans lost quite a few, but they just didn't remember what an F16 jockey once told me about the 104, that she owned: "You gotta fly FAST...all the time!

As a kid growing up near Youngstown, OH airport (dual use - airlines and active Air Force with F-102's they would have open houses and often had a 104 come in for display. Thought I wanted to fly that as I wanted to be an AF pilot. Even got to touch the leading edge which was not razor sharp but pretty darned sharp. Eventually got to Undergraduate Pilot Training (UPT) and got my wings in July of 1971. Wasn't good enough to get a fighter but wound up flying C-130's in Alaska including the C-130 D ski birds we used in Greenland to supply two DEW Line sites out on the Greenland Icecap. 42 ski landings in my log book. Retired in 1990. Nice pic of the 104.

Not a Canadair model(cF-104). Canadair had heated intakes and this picture does not. Looks to be a 104A

Wow, does that bring back memories. As an apprentice, long, long, ago, I worked on the conversions of the three 104s sent to NASA. That was at the old Lockheed facility in Burbank, CA.

William Barker, there is a NASA 104 hanging up in the gallery at the Museum of Flight at Boeing Field in Seattle. I have a couple of pictures posted on this data base.
