Bell V-22 Osprey (16-8306)
Doing a little maintenance work at RNO.

These weren't out in plain sight, so to see them people actually had to leave their vehicles and WALK (OMG, that terrible four letter word! lol) which means that almost no one ever saw them; not even any other photogs. Too bad for them; our tax dollars purchase, maintain, and protect these special birds so in truth these are our aircraft - we all pay $$ for them so we all own them. So getting off their butts and going for a walk to see them close up would seem to me to be something every photographer would want to do. But not around here. Apparently it was just too much work to walk somewhere that was more than 50 feet away from their vehicles. But I can attest that the walk was VERY much worth the effort. I walked over to see them and I was glad I did ... because Gunny even allowed me to look inside (no photos permitted). A once-in-a-lifetime glimpse at what I am an owner of. TYVVM, Gunny.
That is cool and unique catch Gary! Thank you for sharing as this is not common. Very envious of this one :) All 5!
You Lucky...I'd love to walk through one of these..I see these overflying RDD from time to time..I can walk!! Instant 5 for the story too!
Darryl, if you are ever heading out this way, please let me know. We don't get these President's Ospreys too often but we DO get Ospreys so perhaps we'd get lucky while you were here. But even if no Ospreys, we get military metal VERY frequently and with enough advance notice I could arrange for you to have a day surrounded by warbirds at NFL.
Yo, T. About three years ago, I was clicking three Ospreys at RNO. A crewman came over - we got to yakking - long story short - I put on a helmet, the Osprey went up with me tethered inside it and looking out the back - then it came back down. They were just doing some instrument check so they went up for about 4 minutes and then came back down with yours truly as a ride-along. Fargin' AWESOME!!!
