Bell VH-1 (N212DF)
This first photo of N212DF to be posted into FA's picture gallery shows this Nevada Division of Forestry Bell 212 descending slowly to the RTS ramp. By first placing the Bambi Bucket down and then taking care not to entangle or twist the cables as he lands, the pilot is making it easier to lift off later after taking a few minutes to relax while the helicopter is being refueled.

This was one of two NDF "Battle Born Helitack" copters that participated; along with four other helicopters, two Super Scoopers, two BAe tankers, one Mad Dog tanker, and two SEAT aircraft; in battling the North Fire. With that fire now 40% contained and no longer threatening any structures, some of the air equipment has been redeployed to other western fire situations.
Simply a great photo and with background stories. We have been getting some stories of US fires on our news services here but only of California. From me, and knowing what devastation we've experienced here, I can only wish all affected people over there all the best and for safe outcomes.
5 *'s!
Gary, great shot of a great bird, as an ex B205 mechanic I'd like to correct the nomenclature as a UH-1 / B205 not a B212. For those who are viewing. Thanks for all your excellent aircraft photos.
Dicky11 indeed, the Huey is a sweet ol' bird, isn't she! USArmy VN Crew-Chief here. I will always have a soft spot for that venerable airframe.
Gavin, Darryl, dicky, and skylab ... Thanks to each of you for commenting.
@dicky11 ... I most definitely appreciate your insight. However, in this particular case, I think the helicopter is a B212. Built around the same time as the helicopter model you mention, the B212 was / is the civilian version. Of course, you may have more detailed background info. In any case, it makes little difference because when the reg number (N212DF) of this copter was entered into the appropriate box, the FA program autofilled the Aircraft Type box with the "B212" code. Nothing I could do about it. That's the way FA works. (Wave)

Yeah Gary, I understand the issue with FA. When B212 was developed it was given two engines (PT-6T-3)this was back in the late '60's then commercially Bell did away with the Mast Stabilizer Bars. Military & N models (UH-1N) not so much. This comment is only to apprise other readers of the differences however one factor remains common, 2 engines. Thanks again for your great photos of all types of aircraft.,
