One down and two to go. Although this landing may look a bit off-kilter, there was a rather strong wind blowing so the pilot actually made a very good "touch."

Hi, Leon, and thanks. To answer your question ... No, KLAS isn't a new name. It is the ICAO designator for McCarran. There are two primary "systems" used to identify (designate) airports around the world: the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) system and the IATA (International Air Transport Association) system. You can enter the names into your search engine and get the full explanations, but to provide a very brief summation here .... the letters "LAS" are the letters the IATA uses to identify McCarran - those are the letters you would see on your baggage tag. The letters "KLAS" are the letters the ICAO uses to designate McCarran with the letter "K" indicating a geographical location - "K" meaning that LAS is located in one of the 48 contiguous United States. All airports located in Canada have a four letter code which starts with the letter "C" meaning that geographically the airport is in Canada. Airports in South Africa all have a four letter code too and the first letter will always be the same - "F" to indicate that the geographic location of the airport is in Africa. There is more to it, but what I've described is a very, very basic explanation, Leon. There are some airports which are identified by the ICAO with a combination of letters and numbers, and there are other differences; for example, airports in Hawaii have four letter codes that start with the letter "P" (not "K") because even though Hawaii is a US state, it is not one of the 48 connected states and its airports are geographically located in the Pacific.
