Douglas DC-3 (N737H) - Just over 2 miles above Samsarg Field, Airborne Imaging's Douglas DC-3C (N737H) is at 11,500 and taking pics of Fernley while I'm taking pics of it. This excellent old classic bird, which had originated its flight from KTPH (Tonopah, NV), was over my house (close to Samsarg Field) five times in 75 minutes while it flew over Fernley, Hazen, Fallon, and Pyramid Lake. Each of the first four times it passed over my home, it was at 11,500 (AGL), but on its last pass, as it was departing the area heading back to TPH, it had descended to 10,600. This pic was snapped earlier when it was at 11,500 and despite the 2 miles plus height that meant it was a bit beyond the desirable reach of my Tamron lens, this shot came out sufficiently sharp to make it a "keeper."

I'll be checking on it today in hopes that it returns to northern Nevada and the area east of Reno. If it does, and if it is lower than yesterday, I'll drive out to the area it is doing imaging work at and try for more photos of it. I'd REALLY like to get a few clicks of it on the ground or, best of all, taking off or landing, but I'm not going to drive all the way to Tonopah to get them. lolol

Problem with high flying aircraft - 'normal' lenses just can't get the best, but if it's a 'oncer' you have to make do but perhaps you'll get another and better chance. Tip - there's unless a guy here who uses a telescope. Gotta say, not always the sharpest but he reckons it is very hard to get it right. Personally, not something I'd use.

Great capture Gary and you captured really good detail for being so far away. Well done!
