Grumman EF-111 Raven (66-0047)

This Raven was w/o after being damaged in an accident while landing at KCVS on/about 18 Jun 96. It sat derelict at Cannon AFB in New Mexico and was later moved to Mojave where it was found and purchased by the owner of the Carson City (NV)-based privately operated Cactus Air Force. Volunteers associated with the Cactus Air Force assisted in moving it to KCXP and worked for several years to restore it.

INSTANT 5 without even reading.......! Loved the RAVEN - one bad*ss looking jet,,,,especially when flying tucked......great photo.

Back in August of 1990 I was a spectator at Hardwood Range in Central WI. The range officer that I still keep in touch with told me a "Package" of about 30 aircraft were going to be in the Air Space at once. F-15's, F-4's, F-16's dropping 500 pound non explosive bombs. It was awesome.

Two EF-111's came up the driveway to the range lower than 100 ft in a high subsonic pass. That was the highlight.

One of the jets took a bird strike and had to declare an emergency landing at Volk filed 25 miles away. Lots of waterfowl and the home to the Crane Foundation is close by.
