Flown by Clay Lacy in the very first year of the Reno Air Races, held in 1964 at the Sky Ranch in Reno.
Lacy finished 3rd in 1964. But in 1970, Clay Lacy, flying this same F-51D Mustang, won the Gold Medal.

Benzing's "Plum Crazy," along with the P-51D Mustang (N2869D) "Bardahl Special," are two of the Mustangs at this week's "Final Flag" Reno Air Races event that were competitors at the first Reno Air Races in 1964 at the Sky Ranch.
