Classic alright - classic plane, classic livery. 727s and DC-9s just about had it all for short and/or medium haul. Great moment Tom.

Thanks Gavin, excuse my fade.....yes, DC-9s were awesome too...but growing up Seattle BFI next door, I kinda go Boeing...I was old enough to watch and remember the 727 maiden flight landing at BFI - we lived on the hill east side and thousand of test flights along with 707 deliveries over the years, KC-135s, B-52s all day long and most Century series jets were in/out of BFI frequently...we moved in 1964 to California for Dads work.

Alien .... Super pic! And as a couple of FYIs ....
1) that "Z" shaped trail on the mountain (center left edge of your pic) is still there. We just climbed it twice in the past three weeks. It's a huffer-puffer uphill climb. And also ...
2) the runway identifier sign seen in your photo will be changing in September. Because magnetic north shifts ever so slightly over time, RNO's runways must now be redesignated. The parallels 16L-34R and 16R-34L will become 17L-35R and 17R-35L, and Runway 7-25 will become 8-26. Presently, the longest runway (16R-34L) is closed for the summer for major upgrade work, and when it reopens in September it will be 17R-35L.

Gman--! wow, I did not know that trail was open to the public....that must be that area you took some RNO photos recently and posted. Looks like 3-400ft gain in less that a mile..fun! on the FYIs, I did not know the magnenetic north shifted ever so slightly to cause runway headings to change creating NOTAMs and sign work. wow? It will be interesting to listen to ATC Tower talk as the stumbling on the runway numbers ought to be good until ATC forgets about 16-34s. Last, is Gentry Wy open where I took these from, I checked Google street view and the blue line stops....
