Boeing 737-200 (N245WA) - KSJC - in the late 1980s, when San Jose Airport was ready to build the new Terminal A, there was a long term parking lot spread north and south from under where I took this photo now, atop the new terminal A garage. To make additional parking spaces, SJ Officials made a good choice in my favor, and allowed public parking down in the lot shown here, open to the public, out on the ramp!!!! .( Shown here, it was reverted back to employees only parking after the A garage was built) Fine by me, I took the view over being close up, at this point. But I did get plenty of video and photos from the lot shown here parked up by he fence, was never hassled by Airport cops, but they did drive by and look at me standing on the 8ft ladder in the back o f my 4wd pickup...yes, weird looks! I always waved at them and they'd take off. Shown here is Delta N245WA on taxi to the C terminal as a US Air 737-300 departs Runway 30L with a DC-8 smoking up his tail side - one of the closest approaches and take off at San Jose I had ever seen. I have other photos but thought the boring parking lot story would be better!

Great photo Tom and with the story, you get context. I know guy here, but haven't seen for a few years, who mounted his ladder on the back his truck. We've got a long term carpark that's up against some aircraft parking bays but you just don't go there to photograph, unless you are super quick. Used to be ok - once. Thanks for the pics and stories.

Great perspective and history Tom! Thank you for sharing. Just looking at the parking on the ramp - what a great spot to take photos!
