Donald Martin - the aircraft in the photo is a Boeing/Stearman Model 75, also designated as a PT-17 Kaydet.

When I was a kid these were used as crop dusters. You could get a ride around town for $5.00 !

To: Cliff 731. Thank you very much. A great friend of mine, sadly long deceased, used to own and fly one of these biplanes. He had been a US Air Force fighter pilot, later he flew for Air America in the Vietnam War.
