Sam, this Hercules is showing as a LC-130H, USAF s/n 83-0492, c/n 382-5013.

Joe Baugher's information relates it is "named 'City of Amsterdam' with 139th Airlift Squadron 109th Airlift Wing New York ANG".

I took the info from the back of the photo...thanks for the clarification cliff

Sam, you're welcome. I think the paint scheme has changed on this one.

If this was based at Schenectady like a lot of LC-130s are I know there grey and day glow orange
See 109th birds at local airshows and touch and gos at KBUF and KIAG

Paint scheme looks like the lizard or euro wraparound colors used til the early 90s

Sam, that's what it looked like, no doubt, in the late 80's and early 90's... subdued insignia too.

"Grey and day glow orange"... like this? (same aircraft)

Cliff I'm confused that photo link is of same sn...but multiblade props like the J model...is it just an illusion from a slow camera or is there some conversion from the Allison T-56A-15s to the RR engines?
cliff731
Sam, here's a photo of this one with the 4 blade props...

http://www.airport-data.com/aircraft/photo/000251616.html

I believe the photographer is a FA member, so this same photo might also be on this site.

Apparently the current Hamilton Sundstrand 8 blade propellers are an upgrade... but it's still shows as an "H" model.

Most of the J models I see are using a Dowty 6 blade scimitar propellor.

There are references online and a photo of the 139th Airlift Wing's LC-130H "Skier 92", first taking to the air with its new 8 bladed props on 16 Sept 2008 from Stratton ANG Base in NY.

More on it here...

As for the engines, Rolls-Royce bought Allison from GM some years ago.
