Interesting that the FAA says the registration is not valid.

Paul Wisgerhof, it's a USAF aircraft, and doesn't have a registration. That number quoted could be part of its military serial number.

For some reason, FA's system attaches an N to the front of the string if it doesn't recognize the number - frequently the case with military a/c. I have used the suggestion that putting a few 00 in front will sometimes keep that from happening, but I didn't this time (and paid the price by the algorithm).

FA's system accepts US military a/c reg numbers exactly as entered so long as the ENTIRE correct reg is entered. If only a partial number is entered, FA's system usually adds an "N" as a prefix because it has no way of knowing that the entire military reg number was not fully entered. (USAF military a/c regs have 6 numerals, not 5; all six numbers must be entered or FA's system will auto-enter an "N.") The correct USAF reg number for this HC-130J Combat King is 125769. (Wave)

@GarySchenauer...thanks. I corrected it and it now IDs correctly. Note that for some older photos, I have needed to include the leading 00s for it to work as some of the older a/c were shorter numbers than currently in use. But I'm not sure how I missed the '5' in that number string :)
