Thanks for the link Mark Harris, nice set of slides of the Connie in flight. where was it? I guess some display in Europe somewhere. One of my favourite aircraft. Dad worked for an oil company in Bahrain. I as an 8 year old, flew out with my Mum to join him 1955 with BOAC (now BA) for the first time. I still remember the sound of those big radials beating regularly. it took about 24 hrs flying time & we seemed to take about a day and a half stopping at just about all the capital city airports on the way for fuel etc. The service was amazing with freshly cooked food, wine & cigars! No first or second class in those days just luxury. Now it takes about 6.5 hours nonstop. Shortest flight was just over 5 Hrs on a VC10 in 1964 on way over from boarding school for the summer. (Nostalgia just ain't what it used to be!)

MARK HARRIS, Just looked properly at the slides, noted the fin markings of the escorting planes. I guess it was in Switzerland.

Connie is a gorgeous aircraft. Beautiful capture!

Ahh Fond Memories... The Connie and the Super Connie were the the first aircraft I learned to recognise - the noses and the noises! My Old Chap [ex-RAF] was never so proud of his Brat! At one time I even thought "Con-trails" were exclusively theirs...

An ungainly looking aircraft but no doubt a beautiful bird to fly in during its time

I had the pleasure of flying the 1049's(Basic, C & G) on the EAL shuttle as a new hire First Officer. What a ride! 435 hours total flying time and here we were! She didn't fly like she looked - turn the hydraulic boost off and its took both pilots to handle her. Also flew the P2V-7 and noted the similarities including the Wright 3350's and hard to handle when working down low. Built hell for stout.

The Nomad Flying Club in Detroit had one of these back in the 70's. Got it after the DC7. Much better aircraft to fly in.
