HOUSTON - According to FlightAware's proprietary flight tracking database, general aviation (GA) flight activity has decreased by 1.4% in September 2009 compared to August 2009, and has decreased by 7.7% in September 2009 compared to September 2008. The biggest change in activity was led by fractional operators with a 7.6% decrease in activity during September 2009 compared to August 2009.
The airport with the largest significant gain in GA traffic for the month of September 2009 was Washington Dulles Intl in Washington, DC with a gain of 44.8%, contrasted by the airport with the biggest significant drop in traffic, which was Nantucket Memorial in Nantucket, MA with a loss of 58.0%. Year over year, the airport with the largest significant gain in GA traffic for September 2009 was Salt Lake City Intl in Salt Lake City, UT with an increase of 4.7%, but the biggest drop in GA traffic was found at Fort Worth Meacham Intl in Fort Worth, TX with a decrease of 23.2%.
General aviation single engine and multi-engine piston activity decreased by 3.7% in September 2009 compared to August 2009, turboprop activity decreased by 0.5% in September compared to August, and jet activity increased by 1.5% in September compared to August. The aircraft type with the largest significant gain in GA traffic for the month of September was the Cessna Citation III with a gain of 13.3%, contrasted by the aircraft type with the biggest significant drop in traffic, which was the Cessna 402 with a loss of 27.7%. Year over year, the aircraft type with the largest significant gain in traffic for September was the Mitsubishi MU-2 with an increase of 31.1%, but the biggest drop in traffic was found with the Eclipse 500 with a decrease of 52.2%.
