Lockheed C-130 Hercules (02005) - AirVenture 2016. F/A puts the "N" on the front of the reg. I wish they would change that. Should be just 2005.

PPick, entering the four (4) digit USCG serial numbers (or bureau numbers as some might prefer) is certainly a problem on FlightAware. I too wish F/A might do something to prevent that pesky "N" from appearing.

On a side note, Joe Baugher opined on his website that the Coast Guard's serialization system "can be quite confusing, and unlike the USAF or the US Navy, the Coast Guard serial numbers are not necessarily in the same sequence as they were ordered into service."

The last time I photographed a USCG C-130 was years ago at Elmendorf AFB.

Adding a zero infront of numbers gets rid of the N so it would be 02005

I have over 5200 photos posted and every time I have posted a coast guard photo, I have put a 0 and it removed the 0 and put an N in front on the number. I have tried a dash in front of the number and it removes the dash and puts an N in front of the number. never a problem with an F-18 which is usually a 6 digit number without a letter. It obviously is set up when there is only a certain amount of numbers, without a letter that it automatically puts the N in front of the number. But I always clarify in the description when it happens. It drives me crazy when people don't fill in the info boxes! They post a photo and just leave it at that. I think all boxes should have to be filled in to out a photo. Just my opinion.

I like that opinion ppick.

I have used the letters "USCG" as a prefix immediately in front of U.S.C.G. serial numbers and such prevents that "N" from showing up. The serial number entry for this C-130 would have shown "USCG2005"... of course, it isn't technically correct, but again, that troublesome "N" stays away.

Here it is again....USCG tail# 2005 .... Also posted as tail #2005 and tail #N2005
