Very sobering radio communication between ATC and a couple of MU 2 pilots in severe icing over mountainous terrain--in night IMC. Props and airframe ice up as the MU2 begins to lose altitude and groundspeed. Something to keep in mind as freezing levels drop and icing season approaches. A few months ago I started looking for a solution which would allow me to stay in touch with the office during long cross country flights. A trip last fall in a Mooney Acclaim from Washington to Miami during the mid-day time period convinced me that if I was going to be flying myself to meetings, I needed to have some way of keeping in touch while en route. I researched a bunch of different options, but because of cost and size, all seemed more suited for execs in jets. House and Senate negotiators filed the conference committee report late last night which will be voted on by week's end. Little chance this bill will not become law. The report, called a minibus, includes 2012 appropriations for Agriculture, Commerce/Justice/Science, Transportation/Housing and Urban Development, as well as a Continuing Resolution for agencies not included. Amazing for a fleet of only 66 aircraft... Imagine the feeling of a friendly warfighters watching a B-1 hugging the ground flying CAS overhead. Now imagine a Taliban fighter watching same. Congratulations to all the B-1 aircrews and to Boeing. This squawk links to a video/interview of the Bone. FAA EXTENSION INTO DECEMBER -- House Transportation and Infrastructure Chairman John Mica plans to introduce a bill today that would avoid another Federal Aviation Administration shutdown at least until December. While Mica was still working on the finer points late last night, his measure would handle providing retroactive pay to workers who were furloughed earlier this year. Haven't seen the language yet, but should be posted in T&I's website when filed. I'm including that… (transportation.house.gov) Plus d'info...Squawks Voted On
