About the only time you get "new" tires is with a brand new aircraft. LOL

Almost all of them.. And they can be costly.

I didn't know they actually ran them on commercial flights...I guess anything to safe money until one peels off and goes through an engine

Airlines have been running recaps since I have been working maintenance and that is over 28 years. Most of the time they are safe. I think a wheel can only be recapped a max of 3 times. After that they are usually recapped one more time and shipped overseas.

That's about what is for truck tires....three times then scrap....I was just surprised the FAA allowed it all on pax airline aircraft....money talks though and whenever you have the right lobbyist you can buy anything....to be fair though; recaps have come a long way and are getting better.

Note that there is a slight confusion in how that flight was tracked. Although it shows as a 13 hour 17 minute flight, it landed and another plane operating as that flight number took off later but was mistakenly shown on FlightAware as being the same flight due to how it was cancelled and re-filed.

"A tire blew during takeoff and flew into an engine, FBI spokeswoman Barbara Woodruff said."

The FBI?

They look into many aircraft incidents, just for the terrorism possibility, then drop it if there is no evidence.

Is it even true that the plane circled to burn off fuel, then returned to the field? No FlightAware track shows that, but numerous news stories do.
Confused...

Ok people... This is not really news worthy... This kind of things happen more often that people think... I work MOC and have taken numerous tire blow outs. Sometimes they get parts pulled into the engine...

Flight returns to Newark after engine problem.

New York (CNN) -- A Berlin-bound United Airlines flight returned Saturday night to Newark Liberty International Airport after a problem developed in the left engine, officials said.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing flames spewing from engine right after the plane took off.

A tire blew during takeoff and flew into an engine, FBI spokeswoman Barbara Woodruff said. The Federal Aviation Administration said it could not confirm that.
