Boeing discovered a new set of problems in its 737s, further slowing deliveries

Submitted
At Boeing, the hits just keep coming. A new electrical issue on Boeing’s 737s will take time to correct, Bank of America analyst Ronald Epstein wrote in a note seen by Fortune. “This could further impact the timing of deliveries, despite the uncertainty surrounding the number of aircraft affected by this issue,” he wrote Monday. Boeing was forced to slow production at its 737 factory in Renton, Wash., last week due to an issue with junction boxes which are used to rout electrical cables through… (fortune.com) More...

Too bad there is no information in the article. Were the parts not certified or were they flawed in some physical manner? Was it a design flaw or supplier issue? I don't like these articles that spend more time hashing over old news than providing news that pertains to the headline.

How many millions of dollars have been spent on bonuses and golden handshakes for current and departing executives who should have been fired instead?

It's incredibly sad to see the slow, inexorable demise of what was once one of the most respected engineering companies in any sector anywhere.

Yes, and yet it's happening, "happened" right before your eyes! Don't blame Calhoun and others, he made nearly $50 million last year, "doing EXACTLY what the Board wanted him to do"... skimp, cut corners to inflate stock price, which is 1/2 what it was 5 years ago ... to prop up a woke dinosaur company who thought DEI was their savior! But hey, I'm with you .. Boeings hay days are a decade gone. I still predict they'll file bankruptcy in 3-5 years! Hopefully the astronauts will be back by then?

Have to ask who approved these boxes. Engineers or accounting?

Love the use of rout for the route of wires in these planes.... sounds like the wires are routed....

Well, unfortunately this 'Investigation" article doesn't tell us anything more than the other two above. Effectively, a junction box has not been manufactured correctly.Presumably this is critical and Boeing have identified this and are now fixing it. I bet there are dozens of events like this in every aircraft manufacturer and indeed in every car manufacturer too. Consider how many defective part recalls the automotive industry has compared to aircraft manufacturers. So basically, nothing to see here folks!

The point is, rather than the media framing this as 'yet another fault at troubled Boeing', and then lamely and effortlessly using it to infer back to non-associated past events (because blood leads), I instead see it as rather positive. Something which has been detected and actioned that under previous management's approach to safety, may not have been. I hope to see more of these because quite simply suppliers to Boeing can't and shouldn't be be trusted on reputation or past performance alone. They must always be checked. That gatekeeping is now clearly happening at Boeing. What is bad about this? Why do we continue to be so negative?

Comparing apples to Oranges. Automotive flaws.and recalls, sometimes, involve a few cars, and the defective parts get recalled and replaced. A defect in aeronautical engineering or part manufacturing, can cause upwards 200 people falling 35000 feet. Quite a bit more sensational! I can handle my car stopping, but cannot do a thing except pray as my flight goes down.

Interesting point. In a way such sensatioal negative reporting that can be easily reported in a positive way can lead to dangerous consequenses where boeing will prefer to cover up issues instead of being drag in the mud by the media.

Definitely! It's a little known fact, but the deep state has worked directly with Boeing to install 5G antennas in the cabin that turn adults gay and kids trans. Also, have you heard of the sock company Bombas that donates a pair for every pair you buy? Same story with Boeing...every 737 delivered to a customer equals another donated to Janet Airlines which is now offering direct service to Epstein Island! The Government may be fooling everyone else, but you are the brilliant mind that has cracked the code!!!
