Boeing 737 program manager to retire amid crisis over jet's grounding: memo

Soumis

Boeing's 737 jet program manager, Eric Lindblad, will retire in a matter of weeks after roughly 12 months on the job, according to a company memo seen by Reuters on Thursday. Lindblad's departure, after a 34-year career at Boeing, comes as the world's largest planemaker navigates one of the worst crises in its history. Boeing's money-spinning 737 MAX jetliner has been grounded in the wake of two deadly crashes that killed nearly 350 people in the span of five months. Taking… (www.yahoo.com) Plus d'info...

The problems started way before Linblads tenure. And they started a lot higher in the food chain.

Some of those engineers had to know that this design was garbage.

Whether he deserves a share of the blame or is just a scapegoat, he is far from the last of the heads to roll. Let's hope it reaches to the very top of the food chain.

He's retiring, not fired. And this was planned.

"You can't fire me, I'm retiring." Most people can see the writing on the wall, especially when it's written in the blood of 346 people.

But the 'higher ups' always try to blame the 'little people' to save their asses. I'm sure if the Max fraud had anything to do with his leaving, it was more an act of 'You ain't blaming this crap on me! I'm outta here!!!'

Right, especially when considering that he was in this job for only 12 months.

A head not 'rolling', but the first announcement of a Boeing employee leaving that had some connection to the 737.

34 year career, that could put him somewhere in his 50's? Seems early, but who knows. Good time to jump as any.

But his leaving doesn't really mean anything more than he's retiring. As far as anyone knows, the management, and cowardly engineers that agreed with them, are still at Boeing. Status quo...

The rat (executive (s)) we are looking for is the guy or guys who decided to let the $9.00 engineers in India do the software. When you had great US talent in Renton and Everett they were sacrificed to save pennies. Surely the Boeing execs cannot be so blind as not to see that the cheap guys can cost you millions through reworks and delays (and billions maybe in lost sales). And now a lot of dead people whose relatives will want financial retribution.

I'm just a passenger but certainly sorry to see these mistakes causing the loss of reputation of one of America's most iconic companies.

Well off to a good start - but it takes more than one to do this. Many more knew. A few more critical heads should roll -includding the CEO. Buck stops with him.
