The Boeing 747 fundamentally changed the nature of long-haul air travel. As a family, it has been in service for more than half a century since its first commercial flight from New York to London in 1970. I do not hate Airbus and I believe competition is the essence of any business, however; the A380 started service in 2007 and has now been discontinued and airlines are leaving them parked in the desert.

Meanwhile (yes, I acknowledge something dreadful is up at Boeing) the 747 will continue to fly cargo and passengers.
