Colombian airline defers remaining jets in Boeing Dreamliner 787 order indefinitely

Soumis

Colombian airline Avianca has reached a deal with Boeing to defer the delivery of the final 787 Dreamliner jets that were part of a large prior order. Avianca said the financially-struggling airline agreed with the Chicago-based jet maker to defer delivery of two 787 widebody jets, slated for 2021, "indefinitely." Avianca said nothing else about the deal, which it disclosed in a filing with the Bogota Stock Exchange last week. (www.bizjournals.com) Plus d'info...

The difference is: "indefinitely." vs "deferred their delivery to between 2025 and 2029" ...

Why is this tidbit buried in the final paragraphs, while the cancellation of 2 Boeing aircraft makes headlines?

"Avianca not only delayed its Boeing order, but it also pared back its orders with rival Airbus. It cut 20 A320 single-aisle aircraft from its order books, reducing the number to 88 jets ordered, and also deferred their delivery to between 2025 and 2029.

However, the airline said it also agreed to lease more A320s from BOC Aviation, a Chinese leasing company in which Boeing has an interest."

Because the referenced article appears in the Puget Sound Business Journal, which is understandably going to focus on Boeing.

BY THE WAY: It cut 20 A320 single-aisle aircraft from its order books, reducing the number to 88 jets ordered, and also deferred their delivery to between 2025 and 2029.

Notice how they make titles out to be some huge negative for Boeing(over one 787), but bury the fact they cut 20 A320s and deferred them as well? 20 A320's off the books for Airbus sounds much worse than 1 787 getting deferred (:

Avianca's former CEO Efromovich met huge success in the first years since he bought the airline which was days away from oblivion several years ago but took on airs that he would never make a single mistakes but…… he almost drove the airline into the ground buy overbuying fleets and establishing routes like mad without a sound and deliberate feasibility study. Fortunately Continental had bought a stake and that saved the day.
