I guess it's all gonna have to be done and glad there's plenty of planning and all that but while it's down, it will be a regular fustercluck unless the FAA just steps in and tells the airlines to do something else, and doubtful that will happen. It reminds me of a major freeway interchange out in West Little Rock. They should have built it back in the days of initial construction but let it go to critical mass before deciding something ought to be done. 2 years into it and maybe finishing this summer, but has anybody taken an alternate route? Shoot no and there is at times, a 2 mile backup taking the constricted way to get on to it. This will really be fun.

Exactly, a good example of what will happen took place at SFO when they did work on one of their runways about a year ago. GDP's every single day, in addition to the usual ones because of fog.

I drive through that interchange several times a month, and I agree! What a mess. . .

I got to go down there tomorrow and the only good thing is that I won't hit it at rush hour, going or coming. It will help a bunch when they get that Southbound flyover from 430 to 630 open but it will probably be among the last.

I retired in 09; spent about 4 years in a truckline and doing fill in. Came back in Dec 12 and flew a CRJ, hired and orientated a bunch of newbies. Came to the house.

I confess to knowing absolutely zero about this, but wonder if the timing isn't due to funding. Perhaps it's not available for preventive maintenance, but only when it's a definite requirement. The old "if it ain't broke" syndrome.

Interesting to note: They mention "Closures and/or shortening of LAX’s runways are anticipated to continue over the next three years".. Am I reading it out of context, in saying that they are going to shorten the runways there outright/permanently, or is it only for the duration of the construction? If the former, with all of the heavies that need the length for takeoff, that's going to cause a considerable amount of a delay...

So am I reading that wrong?

Brad - I think that they only shorten them temporarily while they work on one portion of it. That way they can continue to use portions for some traffic that needs a shorter runway, such as RJs.

Again, that's what I think, I'm sure some of the more seasoned guys on here will know better. And I know that they will not hesitate to correct me :-)

The shortening of runways will be temporary as they work on the RSA areas. The major impact will be when 24R/6L is closed for four months (July-Oct 2015). With the increased air carrier schedules in the summer in conjunction with more days with IMC conditions, we can expect Ground Delay Programs daily (except Saturday) with delays for both arrivals and departures during this closure. The current closure of 25L/7R is only a 33 day closure. The other challange during the construction will be ground/taxi procedures (getting aircraft to/from the north/south complex that park on the opposite side). There are more Group 6 operations (A380/747-800) at LAX than any other US Airport.

I need to buy stock in the company doing the construction/runway requirements of the Fed's. :) Off to find that list.

There won't be much if anything for shareowners. The executives will run off with most of it, and unions will take the rest.

It must be strange living a life in which you hope for things to be worse than they actually are so that you can talk smack in online comment sections.

I just call 'em like I see 'em. LAWA uses LAX as a cash cow to fund the agenda of politicians and their friends that supply goods and services to the airport.

Someone has to shine light on the lack of full measure being delivered for public funds.

You call it smack, but right thinking people call it veritas.
