Tried to start a similar initiative in AMC when one of its generals wanted something that would reduce the likelihood of an airplane breaking at a particular hot spot airfield. Resistance flared right away from the maintenance world saying that nobody in the maintenance field would change a part before it's due. Good luck this time.

Maintenance said they would not change a part before it was due? In my day if a superior said things were going to change...guess what?...things changed.

Will be interesting to see how that goes... There are a lot of Variables... I can see this as a lot of wasteful spending, but would love to see the results.

Do not tell me we are finally going to run this like a business. Do they still have OPTAR? If so, that creates one hell of a waste of money every year. In the case of a ship don't push usable stuff over the side. Keep it for use in the future. Do not cut the ships budget because they kept stuff they could use in the future. Give them what they request. Tell them OPTAR is dead. We will give you what you want, just do not waste it like has been done in the past. I understand the Marines work that way. Why not the other branches?
