C206 Super Skylane, not plain Jane C182. And that's my boy Hollis flying. Got the text late last night. Glad he's okay!

It's an amazing occurrence when an aircraft is "forced" to land on a highway, it then "inspected by aviation officials" and then is magically safe and able to once again fly! In some parts, they call this condition... Out of gas.

If he ran out of fuel you are so right. That's not good pilotage, just the opposite. Too many people have been killed over the years for such stupidity and carelessness.

Don't think it was gas. Not sure what it was but if it had been gas, media would have been all over it.

Have to wait for the report but I recall a guy in a Bonanza trying to make that trip years ago from Ohio and made it into the pattern at that airport. Killed himself and his flight instructor with him is paralyzed for life. Almost enough fuel....but not quite.

Well, it did not say anything about any maintenance so it may be. Like you say, we'll wait for the report.

I noticed a comment on the story itself was not favorable to the aviation community.

Noted in the TV interview the pilot said they were almost to their refueling stop when the engine quit. Looking at the flight distance and conditions they probably were very close on fuel. Won't know for sure until the report comes out but it does not look like anything other than another out of fuel situation, albeit handled well by the pilot. Bottom line, despite best efforts, sometimes things happen, and this fellow did a great job.

Empty 206 needs at least 150>200 lbs of lead bead bag ballast in baggage compartment to have a normal rotation..else she'll want to wheelbarrow at 'V1'... (this one did!!). Full aft stick isn't enough. Nice job to this pilot.

Was trying to figure out what all the fuss was about when that little pond hopper landed at GSP. I guess I was in the dark, didn't realize until later what had happened.
