Air India flight overshoots runway at Pune airport, all passengers safe

Passengers of a New Delhi-Pune Air India flight survived a scare after their plane overshot the runway while landing at the Pune airport.

A major mishap was averted at the Pune airport after a domestic Air India flight over shot the runway during landing.

The incident took place at around 6.50 pm the Air India flight AI 846, from New Delhi to Pune, overran the runway and skidded after landing.

According to a senior official at the Pune airport, there were 152 passengers on board the flight. All the passengers were safely evacuated after the aircraft deployed its emergency chutes.

The plane was then towed back on to the runway and was taken to the parking bay.

The incident resulted in delays for 10 other passengers flights that were scheduled for take off or landing.

Airport operations normalised only two hours after the incident. There was not immediate information on the cause behind the mishap.

Pune is one of the the busiest airport in Maharashtra, with over 150 domestic passenger flights taking off or landing at there every day. The airport also handles four international flights every day.
