Could someone explain to me the orientation of the British flag on this aircraft. To me, it appears either 1) upside down or 2) backwards. I know the American flag on this side of aircraft appear to be flying in the backward position, but I am having trouble understanding why the British flag should not be the same on both sides. Having a bad day.

The flag of the United Kingdom is not vertically symmetrical. In the hoist half of the flag, the top halves of the diagonal stripes are white while the lower halves are red, while in the fly half of the flag, the upper halves are red and the lower halves white. Thus, when flying "backwards", it also appears to be flying upside down.
