Hawker Hunter (HB-RVS)
Comments
Is this A/C the same as the 1950's F4D Skyray?
No they aren't. The intakes do look similar from the front, but Hunter is longer and has swept wings separate from the mid tail horizontal stabilizer, where the Douglas Skyray had the rounded delta wing. From the front they do look a lot alike so I can see your confusion with this picture.
Used to watch Hunters fly in the 50's/60,s at Farnborough airshow. Back then they were the equivalent of the now Red Arrows, but were the Black Arrows Oh! the memories that invokes planes used to break the sound barrier at the shows.
The Swiss air force is STILL using Hawker Hunters you've GOT to be kidding me!
@n9341c - This a/c has a civil reg.
@n9341c - This Hunter was decommissioned in 1994. The civil "Hunterverein Obersimmental" (Hunter Society Obersimmental) was formed in the same year with the objective to preserve this aircraft. It has been flying again since 2000 and is a regular guest at European airshows.
