I was pleased to have been able to be up close to this while it was parked at Atlantic, but I was VERY pleased when it was finally fully loaded and - as seen here - departed. The wildfire smoke had irritated my eyes and my lungs so much that if this Globemaster had not departed when it did, I was just about to call it a day and head for the safety of the fresh, clean, and clear air inside my home. Instead, as I watched 044132 parked across the airport by the NevANG base apron, I saw the beacons begin blinking and knew it was getting ready to leave so I stuck around a bit longer to get this pic.

Very nice capturer, Gary! Man, those wildfires have some interesting consequences on planespotting, not least of which is the inhaling of particles from the fires that have traveled long distances.

Quite simply a dramatically stunning shot - sometimes it just works. Take care though with all that smoke.

The McGuire base is named after the WWII fighter ace Thomas McGuire who flew "Pudgy" a P-38 Lightening to numerous victories.

Superb photograph!
I remember my USAF days when the C-17 was referred to as the Airline Training Aircraft; because, the flight deck was reportedly so similar to commercial aircraft.
True?
