Northrop RF-5 Tigereye (N926TA) - Tactical Air Support's N926TA, a Northrop F-5E Tiger, is clicked here as it was rotating away from Runway 16L yesterday afternoon. I'm not quite certain why it had stayed overnight at RNO ... because Tactical Air Support is located at Reno Stead Airport (KRTS) which, for this Tiger, is probably about 180 seconds north of RNO. So why it did not fly back to RTS on the previous evening is a bit of a mystery and the only guess I can make is that some mechanical malfunction occurred that mandated an immediate landing at the closest airport with plenty of emergency equipment available. Prior to this departure, a team of TAS personnel were observed working around this Tiger so they (the TAS team) must have come to RNO from RTS to either check on something or make some type of repair. In any event, when this F-5E departed, it flew east past NAS Fallon and again participated in Top Gun training exercises as an aggressor aircraft.

Prior to being assigned to Tactical Air's Tiger, aircraft reg number N926TA had been assigned to a Beechcraft.

Well done Gman - how many jets to TAS have? 5x

Great photo, and thanks for all of the information. It is interesting to note that the F-5 was one of the first aircraft used by Top Gun to simulate the MiG 21 since both are daylight only aircraft.
