The '04' in the serial number indicates 2004, it was delivered in 2005. Just filling in the blank up there...

2004 is the fiscal year that the US Government and Boeing/McDonnell Douglas finalized the contractual requirements for the aircraft.

For many years I lived in Redlands, CA near Norton AFB. I used to spend many a lunch hour as well as eveniongs and weekends watching the C-141 flock come and go. Many times a bird of another feather would swoop in to roost for a while. Not being a native of the area, I had not grown up near aeroplanes. I was fascinated by these magnificent machines. Now I am on the flight path, and within the 5 mile final for KIND. Boring!!!

@ Chris: flew on a C-141B from Ft. Benning to Saudi Arabia for Desert Shield/Desert Storm w/stops @ McGuire & Torreón AFB. Had a couple of air to air refuelings involved, too.
