Flying Over Dangerous Areas

I think that the regular flight path was further South but that they were up on this jetway due to bad wx to the South. There is a report circulating now that Russia had closed this route just an hour or 2 before takeoff but nobody got the word. That has not been confirmed
As I stated in a previous thread the crew of MAS had asked for FL35, but it was denied. They flew north to avoid the wx, but apparently not far enough
If it was a BUK missile that got them, I doubt if a few thousand extra feet would have made any difference. In listening to the intercepted phone calls, I'm beginning to think it was not an accident, although it could have been any of several airliners.
