I know it's just an optical illusion, but that must still be a nightmare approach.

think this is bad -- the approach to San Diego KSAN is between high rise buildings and directly over the city. Given the proximity to the ocean, FOG is frequently present too. Truly one of the most hazardous airports in the world.
