Airbus A320 (N106US) - Water Salute: The wreck of N106US, Flight 1549-"Miracle on the Hudson" arrives a little after 12:00 on Friday, 10 June 2011 at the Charlotte Airport. This plane went into the Hudson River next to Manhattan in New York City after ingesting geese in the engines. It "ditched" (made a water landing) on January 15, 2009. After more than 2 1/2 years, it finally arrived at Charlotte, its original destination, except by truck. Captain "Sully" Sullenberger and his First Officer Jeffrey B. Skiles were at the controls and were later awarded the "Masters Medal" from the "Guild of Air Pilots and Navigators" for the "Most Successful Ditching in History." Greeted in Charlotte with a water cannon salute, the plane made its way across runway 18L to its new home where it will be displayed permanently at the Carolinas Aviation Museum, Charlotte Airport (KCLT), North Carolina USA.

There were a number of logos pasted to the side of the plane. Many companies donated money help pay for the cost of moving the hulk from a warehouse in New Jersey to the Carolinas Aviation Museum in Charlotte, NC.

Since this event was considered the most successful water ditching by a commercial aircraft and the most startling and fortunate fact was that no one died, companies were happy to be part of the move. Airbus, the manufacturer of the plane has a big decal. Supor is the specialty moving company from New Jersey that handled the move. BAE makes electronics used in Airbus aircraft, Chartis is a big insurance company owned by AIG. Liebherr is a Swiss company and is a significant aircraft parts supplier to Airbus. Thales is a big international supplier of aircraft electronics.

What is great about this is you can see this airplane and most of its parts. The wings are mounted on cradles near their original attachment places. They were cut off after recovery from the Hudson River. The wreck is very well presented. Nicely lit and startling to see up close, in a building. The plane is quite large. Visit the museum between flights at Charlotte. Charlotte is a big hub for the new American Airlines now, handling about 600 flights per day. The museum is across the field from the terminal. The museum is also affiliated with the Smithsonian Museums and is well worth the visit.

Bravo to Airbus for building the A320 and US Airways for having Captain "Sully" and his Co-Pilot make the life saving decisions that they made to save the souls on board including the plane! It was apparent to onlookers that life was to be conserved at all costs and the plane, somewhat intact, was the proof! Captain Sully and the First Officer Skiles were indeed deserving of the awards that were given to them! Again, BRAVO for a job well done!!
