A 2003 Mooney M20M (single engine propellor plane) with registration number N400DE was intercepted by Indiana National Guard F-16s before crashing in Indiana. The single-engine plane is registered to a Michigan corporation and departed from Grand Rapids, Michigan at 9:43a EDT and the last radar positions were received at 11:31am before crashing in Muncie, Indiana.
It is being reported by CNN and others that the pilot became unresponsive to radio calls and NORAD scrambled F-16s around 10am to intercept the aircraft. Sources speculate that the pilot may have had oxygen depravation or become otherwise incapacitated.
